Singapore do the double over Selangor

There was double joy for Singapore in the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup football competition at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night.

First the Singapore veterans defeated their Selangor counterparts 4-1 on penalties. The match had ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time. Singapore took the lead in the 21st minute through Salim Moin and Abdul Moin equalised for Selangor two minutes later.

During the match, former Singapore captain Dollah Kassim complained of chest pains and he was rushed to hospital.

In the main match for the Cup, Singapore showed their supremacy, scoring a convincing 3-0 win over Selangor.

Skipper Indra Sahdan opened accounts for the Lions in the 27th minute and Aleksandar Dunc stretched the lead seven minutes later.

A minute before the breather, Singa­­pore were up 3-0 when John Wilkinson’s free kick sailed past a rooted goalkeeper Mohd Hamsani Ahmad.

The Lions dominated the second half but were unable to add to the score.

Singapore President S. R. Nathan and the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sha­ra­fud­din Idris Shah, gave away the prizes.

Besides the Cup, the Singapore team also received RM50,000 while Selangor settled for RM10,000.- thestar
